Indigo Bridge is excited to host Lily Yeh for a book discussion and signing of Awakening Creativity: Dandelion School Blossoms on Tuesday, March 13th at 6 p.m. She is visiting Lincoln through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Department of Art and Art History for a week of lectures, workshops and community engagement.
“When I see brokenness, poverty, and crime in inner cities, I also see the enormous potential and readiness for transformation and rebirth. We are creating an art form that comes from the heart and reflects the pain and sorrow of people’s lives. It also expresses joy, beauty, and love.” Lily Yeh
Lily has worked internationally as the founder of Barefoot Artists and co-founder of The Village of Arts and Humanities. She works to transform abandoned areas into safe places for play, gathering and community using her passion, art and the combined effort of volunteers. She is bringing her knowledge to Lincoln to inspire students and volunteers on the local level.
Awakening Creativity: Dandelion School Blossoms is the collected imagery and stories of one of Lily’s amazing projects. In Beijing, China, she and students, teachers and others converted a factory into a dedicated youth space. The book follows the progress of paint, mosaic and construction as the area becomes safe, beautiful and reborn. The Dandelion School is a vivid example of the changes she has helped create in other communities in America and abroad.
