Hello and welcome to our new monthly blog feature – Indigo Eats. My name is Aja and I manage Indigo Bridge. Mostly this means that I spend hours balancing budgets, creating schedules and moving heavy boxes. Sadly, I don’t get to spend all day, every day reading. This is heartbreaking both because that would be an awesome job, but also because that means I can’t keep up on every wonderful book that comes out. I tend to fall into reading only from my favorite genres. So, if you need to know about Young Adult books, I’m your girl. If you need to know about military history, I’ll need to do a bit of research.
Have you ever heard the joke, where you ask a chef, “Great, you can cook. Can you farm?” Book selling is sometimes like that, where a customer’s needs outstrip my ability to provide answers. Luckily, we have a diverse staff that all work together to make us better than we would be individually. One such staffer, Adrienne, has upped the stakes though. She has challenged me to break out of my comfort zone.
Adrienne is a wonderful cook, who keeps our cooking section filled with the best selections possible. She partnered with my best friend Shae, another fabulous cook, to make me, YA reading and bill filing extraordinaire, a good cook – one cookbook at a time. I’ll be learning everything from how one zests a lemon to the far more complicated best ways to tempt kids with vegetarian selections. The recipes are all coming from books we carry on the shelves but I’ll be supervised by friends, family and professionals while I learn my stuff.
