April is National Poetry Month! The concept dedicating a full month to poetry was first introduced in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets as a way to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the United States. So here are some ways YOU can increase your poetic awareness!
- Expose yourself to some new poetry. A large number of poets across the nation are participating in writing new poems every day in the month of April and posting their new creations to their websites. You can follow a TON of poets here.
- Artistically challenge yourself. Write a poem of your own every day this month. Do it! Why not? If more than one person in your life is interested in giving it a try, you can all share your work together. Fun! Or you can burn each creation immediately after. Also fun! Whatever suits you.
- Come join us at Indigo Bridge Books to celebrate! Local poets will be sharing their work here from 7pm to 8pm every Thursday night during the month of April. You can check out our events calendar here for more details!
Keep on keeping on fellow humans and poets! We look forward to seeing you soon!
